   Dec 18,  · I'm normally a Heifetz fan, but I don't care for his Sonatas and Partitas. His playing is too romantic/flowery, and the stereo mix, at least on my CD, is loose and mushy. For a more recent performance, I like Gidon Kremer on ECM. His style is also a bit ragged rather than flowery. I love almost anything Gidon Kremer plays, though.

   Heifetz's RCA Victor recording of Bach's sonatas and partitas has been the standard for over six decades; except for the sound. Heifetz for some reason favored close-mike recordings which has the effect of reducing airiness and ambience to the music/5(30).
