-- Gramophone [1/] Karen Khachaturian Sonata: [Heifetz is] suited to the early Sonata of Karen Khachaturian, who is Aram Khachaturian's nephew. On the evidence of this work, like his uncle, Karen writes in an outgoing, vigorous, uncomplicated style, which Heifetz plays in a cheerful, extrovert fashion Gramophone Bach Sonatas and Partitas.

Dec 18,  · I'm normally a Heifetz fan, but I don't care for his Sonatas and Partitas. His playing is too romantic/flowery, and the stereo mix, at least on my CD, is loose and mushy. For a more recent performance, I like Gidon Kremer on ECM. His style is also a bit ragged rather than flowery. I love almost anything Gidon Kremer plays, though.

BACH Solo Violin Sonatas and Partitas. PISENDEL Solo Violin Sonata • Amandine Breyer (vn) (period instruments) • ZIG-ZAG (2 CDs: 34) Amandine Breyer plays her version of Johann Sebastian Bach’s solo sonatas and partitas on a Baroque violin made by Pierre Jaquier, but the tone she draws from it—and Zig-Zag’s recorded sound—together reflect a more modern sound: Her tone.

Heifetz's RCA Victor recording of Bach's sonatas and partitas has been the standard for over six decades; except for the sound. Heifetz for some reason favored close-mike recordings which has the effect of reducing airiness and ambience to the music/5(30).
